RV Portable Waste Tanks

When your RV holding tank is full you can empty it into a portable, plastic tank. RV portable waste tanks can save you time and hassle especially if you are at a campground for an extended period of time. How does it save time and effort you may ask? Using the RV portable waste tank you will not have to move your camper to the campground dumping station; instead, you will pull the portable plastic waste tank to the sewage facility.

How a RV Portable Waste Tank Works

Your RV has as a gray water holding tank and a black water holding tank. Water from the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and shower is considered the gray water. The black water holding tank collects from the toilet. These tanks converge into one main outlet used to empty the holding tanks. This is where we connect our sewer hose. When the tanks are full always dump the black tank first, followed by the gray tank. Dumping the gray water tank last will help flush the sewer hose out.

RV portable waste tanks come in 12, 18, 27 and 35 gallon models. The larger models (18,27,35 gallon size) have 4 wheels and a towing handle. The wheels are 8 inches high and rugged enough to handle any landscape. These portable models store flat and require no heavy lifting. The self storing sewer hose is 5 feet long and stays connected to the bottom of the tank. There is an auto stop level gauge that stops the flow when the portable tank is full. This will prevent overfilling and a messy clean up.

Every time you empty your holding tank directly into the campground dumping station or into a RV portable waste tank you need to treat it with holding tank chemicals. This will help control the odors and break down solids. You should always use environmentally safe chemicals, such as enzyme based chemicals. These use good bacteria to digest waste and control odors. Chemicals with formaldehyde in them destroy the good bacteria that's needed to break down waste. They are also dangerous to people and pets alike.

Check out the portable waste tanks available online for camping convenience. It sure beats moving your RV camper when the tanks are full.

I finally bought one of these rv portable waste tanks and they work really well for my camper. I keep my camper on a lake where the dumping station is about 300 yards from my site. With the portable waste tank I don't have to move everything when I need to empty the sewage holding tank.

I bought one of these portable waste tanks for my 5th wheel. We keep our 5th wheel at a campground in upstate New York for the summer and you are right, having this portable waste tank saves alot of hassle. I hate moving the 5th wheel every other week just to dump the waste.

I finally had the chance to do some RVing this summer...and I can't tell you how clutch our portable waste tank was. When you are in good back country for long periods of time one never wants to resort to going the "nature" route.

Good hub!
